The NHD rules were updated in 2021: be sure to read the new rules here.

The Arizona Historical Society is the Arizona Affiliate for National History Day, managing and coordinating the National History Day program throughout the state. Teacher recruitment and training workshops prepare teachers for successfully guiding students through the program. Student workshops help students select the right competition platform for their topic, and teach them the components of a successful project, as well as hands-on assistance with their specific projects. For more information on the National History Day in Arizona program, visit the Arizona Historical Society website.

What to expect during the competition:

The 2022 contest will be a hybrid contest, meaning that there is a virtual competition option for students who need it. Please include that information on your registration form. Students participating in the exhibits or performances category should plan to be in person, as these categories are the most difficult to judge virtually. Students competing in the paper, documentary, or website categories are encouraged to attend the in person contest date, but know that if you cannot there is a virtual competition option. For internet privacy and security reasons, students participating virtually will not be interviewed by judges.
